At 10am, in the Main Chamber of Motherwell Civic Centre, your elected councillors for Thorniewood and Bellshill wards will join the rest of the elected councillors for North Lanarkshire Council as the current administration reveal their plans for the 2020/21 budget.
The budget affects every single one of us and is made up of several aspects of income, mostly from the Scottish Government’s local government settlement grant and council tax that you pay as a resident in this authority area.
It’s been well documented that NLC have indicated they need to make £100m in savings over the next 3 years but each budget is only arranged for one year at a time.
This meeting will be open to the public to view from the public gallery, however, the issue is sure to be rather emotive and we should advise you that the public are not permitted to take part in or voice their opinions while the meeting is taking place, from the public gallery and the Provost can order their clerks to remove anyone or all the public from the gallery, so please keep that in mind if you are attending. It is on a “first come, first served” basis, so get there early and register at the front desk if you want to improve your chances of entry as spaces are extremely limited.
If you can’t attend, or are unable to gain access, then you can still view the meeting online. It will be several hours long and may have adjournments throughout, if the meeting goes on past normal time. The link to view the live web-cam is:

As always, we want to know what YOU think of the budget before and after it’s announced. It’s sure to be extremely emotive and hit everyone in the pocket so please, be sure to be mindful of who will be reading your comments as our page is moderated for foul / hurtful language.
